THE APRIL FAIR IN SEVILLE, SPAIN is considered one of Spain’s greatest spring celebrations. Once a fair for farmers to buy and sell animals, agriculture, machinery, and crops, La Feria de abril (April Fair) is now largely a time of celebration with eating, dancing, amusement park rides, games, a circus, and a horse show.

The fair is set up like a small city on a fairground site that goes for almost a mile. There are many small “casetas” (large tent-like structures) where food and refreshments are served and many people dance to live flamenco music. People often dress in traditional flamenco clothing and spend the days walking the fair’s sand covered streets seeing the many sights, and at night the paper lantern lights that are strung along all the streets create quite an ambiance.
