You can implement Spanish easily in your homeschool! One of the things I love about homeschooling is the flexibility it allows. I love how kids can move ahead in subjects where they excel and move more slowly through those that challenge them most. I also love that there are possibilities to add subjects that might otherwise not be available at a school, like Spanish.

When elementary or middle school students begin learning a foreign language, they have more time to work toward fluency. And, they have the ability to learn language more easily because of where their brains are developmentally.

But, many parents are unsure that they can implement Spanish. They question if they have enough time, money, or Spanish knowledge themselves. With Spanish for You! none of these are problem.

First, with Spanish for You!, everything is laid out day by day in short lessons of 10-30 minutes. Audio of all the content is provided so you can hear everything . Answer keys are provided for everything too! The program is designed so you can teach your children at home without any Spanish experience. Here is an example of what a few of the lessons in the weekly Lesson Guide look like:

Day 1:

  • Read Lección 1 p. 1 with audio. (All audio files are clearly labeled so you can find them easily.)
  • Do Learning Your New Vocabulary p. 1 to begin learning these new words.
  • Optional: Play ¿Cómo te llamas? card game. See Games and Activities for simple instructions. (This is  a  section in the book included with the homeschool package.)

Day 2:

  • Review Lección 1 p. 1 with audio.
  • Do L1 Vocabulario nuevo worksheet.
  • Optional: Play ¿Cuál falta? See Games and Activities for simple instructions.

Day 3:

  • Quick review Lección 1 vocabulary flashcards you made. (Students use the flashcards they make to do many activities throughout the program.)
  • Do L1 Vocabulario y mandatos worksheet.
  • Do Using Your New Vocabulary p. 2 with audio.

You just follow the steps every day at your own pace. I suggest you work on Spanish at least twice a week to build momentum and have consistency. Also, you saw in the example above an “Optional” game. Every week there are Optional games and activities. These provide opportunities to practice in fun ways for one or more persons.

Second, the program is affordable. The cost for an entire school year is $44.95. If you have multiple children, they can share the program, or you can reuse the materials with younger children when they get old enough. The program is for grades 3-8. The grade levels indicate the age/grade of the student and that the material is taught in a way appropriate for that age/grade. Use of the grade levels is flexible. Quick read about that here.

Last, as you read above, you don’t need to know Spanish to use this. You can even learn along with your kids. Many parents do the program with their kids because it is fun with lots of games to play together!

With Spanish for You!, you don’t need to think about the direction you are going. It takes you there every step of the way and readies your child for high school Spanish. Your kids will know how to use vocabulary, verb conjugation, and grammar all together to speak, read, and write in Spanish. As well, after completing 3 to 4 of the school-year themed packages, you will have covered the approximate equivalent of a first-year high school class!
