A great way to get students using vocabulary, conjugated verbs, and grammar concepts creatively together is to tell stories. Â This is fun to do as a class or at home with your kids.
What I do is:
- write sequence words on the board: primero = first, luego = next, entonces = then, and por fin = finally/last.
- create a word bank of verbs that the students have been learning. I make these infinitive verbs, meaning they are not conjugated. This way students will have to conjugate them as you all tell the story.
- create a vocabulary word bank. Have students say some vocabulary words they have been learning as you write them on the board.
Once you have these support items on your board, begin “telling” the story with your students. Have students raise hands to contribute sentences to the story. You write the sentences on the board while they also write them on paper.
Continue “telling” the story until everyone has contributed a sentence. Then read it aloud together. Â As a follow up, you can have students each write a story of their own.
